T.D. Williamson (TDW) was contracted to clean two lines on OMV-Petrom’s production Asset II Oltenia exploration and production development in southwestern Romania, which were obstructed by sand and paraffin produced by nearby production rigs. To complicate matters, the lines scheduled for cleaning were bent at acute angles at several points and featured variable internal diameters, making them extremely difficult to clean.

Despite this, TDW was able to develop a solution that would thoroughly clean the lines through its in-depth experience, positive working relationship with OMV-Petrom, and knowledge of the field.

The outcome of the operation exceeded the expectations of OMV-Petrom Operational Manager Nicolae Gheorghe, who initiated and oversees the pipeline rejuvenation’ project, a bold initiative dedicated to rehabilitating the steel pipe of the pipeline network.

Mr Gheorghe said “The crude oil flows more freely through the pipeline, meaning that less energy is required to pump the product. The cost of pipeline maintenance and repair is much lower, in keeping with the drop in the number of leakage incidents. Production costs are reduced and revenues are increased, in association with the higher flow rate.

“Throughout this special operation, TDW demonstrated the benefits of their technology and professional experience. As a result, we are confident that by extending this application to our well flow lines, we can achieve a significant increase in production,” said Mr Gheorghe.
