Operations

It is important that pipeline operators properly manage their asset to ensure efficient throughput and to prevent failure.

Through SCADA systems, operators are able to monitor pipeline conditions in addition to being able to open and close valves, control the flow of product through the pipeline, and perform other remote actions.

Various software packages are available to help pipeline operators manage their data. Operators also regularly conduct surveys of the pipeline, involving a manual route walk, to ensure that the pipeline has not been damaged.

Operators are also responsible for ensuring their assets comply to necessary government, technical and safety regulations.
